TRANSITIONAL/INTERIM PASTOR

Byers Community Church on the eastern plains of Colorado, a congregation of Denver Presbytery is seeking a Transitional/Interim Pastor for a 6 month-1 year term beginning February 1, 2024.  Byers Community Church is seeking the leader God has already chosen to serve this small rural, traditional, conservative congregation located 30 minutes from Aurora following the ten-year ministry of their previous Commissioned Lay Pastor.  We are seeking a Pastoral Leader with energy and passion for walking alongside a congregation in the midst of transitioning and moving forward as the community of faith they believe they are called to BE. This is a 10 hour/week position with a focus on leading worship, moderating the session, and working with the congregation on the "developmental tasks" of transitional ministry. These goals normally include some or all of the following tasks:

 

  1. Help the congregation bring the relationship with the former pastor to closure.

  2. Help the church come to terms with their history.

  3. Work with the congregation to discover and articulate its current identity and determine future vision and mission.

  4. Help the church adjust to changes in leadership and facilitate shifts in lay leadership and changes in congregational power structures as needed.

  5. Revisiting and renewing relationships with Denver Presbytery and the PC (USA) as needed.

  6. Work with Session to develop short term goals for future Pastoral Leadership considering various options including but not limited to Commissioned Pastor, Retired Minister of Word & Sacrament, Shared Ministry with another congregation.

  7. Prepare the church for new pastoral leadership and a new future.

 

The Interim Pastor will fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Lead worship and administer the sacraments.

  • Provide spiritual and administrative leadership for the congregation, including development of Worship Bulletins.

  • Serve as moderator of the session on a monthly basis on Sundays following worship.

  • Provide pastoral care for the congregation.

  • Assist Session Elders in their ministry.

  • Communicate regularly with the Ministry Relations Committee’s Transition Team and advise them when the church is ready to move forward in calling Pastoral Leadership.

  • Officiate at weddings and funerals.

 

The Interim Pastor’s work schedule is paid at 10 hours a week, compensation will be pro-rated in accordance with Presbytery minimums with benefits:

Effective Salary: $ 15,003

Pension and Medical Benefits $  5,851   (39% of effective salary)

SECA  $  1,148   (7.65% of effective salary)

Total Yearly Compensation……... $ 22,002
